Once Upon A Mattress Spring 2012

If you thought you knew the story of 'The Princess and The Pea,' you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that, in fact, it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar tale of royal courtship and comeuppance from the Rodgers and Hammerstein library of classics provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again!

Maryann Totsch-Hopwood was weaned on MGM musicals and has had a lifelong love affair with music and theater. A piano and a pair of ballet shoes turned performing into an immediate passion at age 3. Four years later, she began producing musicals (in her garage) and hasn’t stopped since. She secured her first job as a music director at the age of 16, and has been a high school teacher, forensics coach, director/music director/ choreographer for schools, community theatres, and touring companies. Favorite directing credits include: Take A Bow’s fabulous inaugural production of SOUTH PACIFIC last summer and the wacky H.P. and the Deadly Halloween Harry Potter parody in October, for which she also wrote the script, Anything Goes, Wizard of Oz, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Peter Pan, Inspecting Carol, The Wedding Singer, and Godspell. She is a vocalist and plays several musical instruments. Maryann is co-owner of Great Escapes Cruise, Tour & Travel, Music Director at St. Mary’s Parish and Music Coordinator at King’s House. She adores her family of 10: husband Robert, children Robert II and Alexandra, and six adopted cats. She is thrilled to be a founding member of TAKE A BOW SHOWCASE, which has already grown into a thriving creative, supportive performing arts family, and to have had a chance to work with the extraordinary cast, musicians and creative team of ONCE UPON A MATTRESS
